Autonomous Drumkit, 2006

The sound of a drum kit playing itself. Converted using the magnetic drivers from a selection of speakers, the drum skins become like diaphragms and, in effect, speakers themselves. The skins also become microphones (microphone and speaker being essentially the same but in reverse) and the sound of the absent drummer is recorded. When the recorded actions are played back there is the sense of a physical or even ghostly presence as the drums actually move.
